 | Jackie Oates was originally going to perform at Bradninch Art and Music Festival in 2007 but she unfortunately fell ill. It has taken 3 years to get her back because in the meantime her meteoric rise as a much in demand festival star and performer which has hitherto denied us the opportunity. Jackie Oates is a singer and fiddle player hailing from Staffordshire. Her unique treatment of English ballads and songs, and pure, haunting singing style has attracted increasing attention. Originally from Staffordshire she has become an honorary Devonian and very much a local to Exeter. However this parochial view understates the fact that we have the opportunity to see in Bradninch one of the hottest acts on the folk scene who is not only getting top showing at all the UK’s major festivals but is now getting seen in the USA and other places. The accolades and awards that have followed her are an award for her sheer talent and charming personality. In 2009 Jackie won 2 awards at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2009. The Horizon award and the award for Best Traditional Track. She was nominated in 2010 she had three nominations for the Album of the Year Award, Folk Singer of the Year Award and Best Traditional Track for ‘Isle of France’ from Hyperboreans. For the second year in a row a Jackie Oates album has featured in Mojo’s top ten folk albums of the year. Hyperboreans has reached number 5 on the end of year album chart of 2009 in this the biggest specialist music magazine in the UK. National news papers have clearly marked Jackie out as something special We are grateful that she has been so determined to fulfil the original commitment. We hope that all who come to see here will be delighted by her open friendly presentation of her music which contains great originality in its interpretation. www.jackieoates.co.uk/ |
